Our friends at SYFY brought us on board to create a conceptual teaser and promo package for Nightflyers, a new psychological thriller from the mind of George R. R. Martin.
The series follows a team of scientists on a mission that takes them to the edge of the solar system and to the edge of insanity, as they realize true horror isn’t waiting for them in outer spacE — it’s already on their ship.

SYFY tasked us with creating a conceptual teaser that visually reinforced the series tagline: “You can’t escape what’s inside.” We developed a concept that uses visual distortions of the characters’ faces to draw the viewer into the volatile emotional landscape of their minds.
Kill 2 Birds then partnered with Territory Studio to bring this concept to life.
An experimental R&D process led to various techniques for distorting the geometry of each character’s face. Serving as contextual references, the distortions represent specific internal struggles that tap into the backstory and narrative arc of each character.
We’re thrilled with the outcome of our partnership with Territory; it demonstrates the value of strong creative collaborations.
promo package
After our fruitful alliance with Territory on the teaser trailer, we moved ahead with creating a promo graphics package — building on the concept of distortion — that features distorted typography and show footage. The overall look and feel is both synthetic and organic. The mixture of those qualities aligns with one of the central themes of the series (technology versus nature) while distancing it from the “computer glitch” trend that is so hot these days.
